Cassie's Story
Cassie arrived at Three Counties with her lifelong companion, Sheena in December 2007. Cassie, like Sheena, was an elderly German Shepherd who had been terribly neglected. Both dogs were extremely thin and starving hungry, yet loving, affectionate and very good natured. Cassie and Sheena were absolutely devoted to each other. An urgent appeal was launched for a very special comfortable home for these two deserving girls.
Although valiant attempts were made to heat the kennel and provide a padded bed and floor Cassie's mobility began to quickly deteriorate until she was barely able to stand or walk. After much heart searching it was finally felt that Cassie had endured enough and caring hands at Burghley Veterinary Surgery helped Cassie to gently and peacefully slip away to a better life on 14th December 2007.
Despite kind offers of help following our urgent appeal it did not happen in time to give Cassie the chance she truly deserved to spend a short time in the comfort of a loving home. Unfortunately this sad story is not the first and doubtful it will be the last. Cassie was a beautiful girl both in nature and appearance. She brought a great deal of joy to everyone she came into contact with at Three Counties and she will be sadly missed.
Cassie's gentle spirit is very much felt around the kennels and we will always remember this wonderful, brave, gorgeous dog with love and affection. We like to think of Cassie running around having a great time in 'doggy heaven' waiting patiently to be reunited with her beloved Sheena.
